Constipation is a nuisance. Home remedies can solve them gently and in a healthy way without making the body dependent.
Blockages are no stranger to many. But it is usually rarely talked about. According to a report in the medical world, an investigation found that around 25 percent of men and 60 percent of women suffer from stool constipation. The reasons are different. Often wrong nutrition, stress, too little fluid and lack of exercise are the cause. In women, however, it can also lead to constipation during pregnancy or during menopause, when the estrogen level drops.
When does one speak of a constipation?
Who can use the toilet when and how often is different. Some have bowel movements three times a week and find it perfectly adequate, and many others have to go every day. As different as the individual people are, so is the frequency of bowel movements.
Constipation suffers when you empty your bowels less than three times a week, or when you need to squeeze hard.
Laxative is not the best choice
To put an end to the suffering, many resort directly to laxatives. Around 40 million packs of laxatives against blockages migrate over the counter. According to Statista statistics, 0.07 million Germans aged 14 and over use laxatives every day. At least once a week, around 0.35 million Germans take laxatives. Even though the remedies fix the problem pretty quickly, the numbers are just scary. Above all, the problem is far from resolved. Laxatives have a negative effect on the body, especially on the intestines. On the one hand, these remedies make them dependent and, on the other, they damage the intestine and make it increasingly sluggish.
Note: If you have taken laxatives for a long time, you should be aware that home remedies may not work the way you are used to with laxatives. The body has to get used to it. It is best to stop the medication slowly and combine it with one of the following home remedies at the same time.
6 home remedies for constipation
❖ Tip 1: enjoy dried fruit
Anyone who regularly suffers from constipation, knows the feeling – a bloated stomach and an unpleasant feeling of fullness. Dried fruits such as dried plums, figs or even apricots can help here. These fruits are good fiber sources that have a laxative effect.
In the evening, before going to bed, pour two or three fruits of dried fruit with cold water and let them pass through covered. Then drink the water the next morning and eat the fruits. It should not be too long before you need to go to the bathroom.
❖ Tip 2: Warm water on an empty stomach
A classic against constipation is also warm water. Drink a glass of warm water on an empty stomach every morning. With a functioning intestinal flora, it does not take long before you can go to the bathroom.
❖ Tip 3: Psyllium husks with water
Psyllium husks are an indispensable part of the low carb diet. Here they are used as natural glue and binders in bread products. With these shells but also blockages can be solved. To do this you should swell a teaspoonful of psyllium husks in 100 milliliters of water two to three times a day. The small bowls are odorless and tasteless, so you do not need to worry about it.
Who does not like the consistency after the Vorquellen, can pulverize the psyllium husks in advance.
❖ Tip 4: Regular exercise and massages
If the bowel does not want to get started again, it can also help to walk a few steps. Exercise helps to keep the intestines on their toes. We recommend a short walk of 20 minutes right after the meal. If this alone does not help, you can support the stomach massage in a clockwise direction.
»A little tip: If you make the walk a daily routine, then blockages will soon be a thing of the past.
❖ Tip 5: Drink a lot
Drinking is important to our body, most know. That the wrong amount of drink but also can provide constipation, know the least. An adult should drink at least 2-3 liters. The best are:
- unsweetened teas
It may also be a juice spritzer from time to time, but that you should not exaggerate. The body needs the fluid to increase the stool volume together with the fiber. The withdrawal is less painful.
❖ Tip 6: Balanced diet
A balanced diet is extremely important to prevent constipation. This includes, above all, a fiber-rich diet with whole grains and plenty of vegetables. You should do without finished products and sweets as far as possible. Preservatives are also poison for the body, because they ensure that the good bacteria in the gut, which are responsible for the digestion, are killed.
There are also special bacterial cultures that should be consumed regularly through the diet so that the intestinal flora remains active. These bacterial cultures are living probiotic bacteria. These are present in many foods. This includes:
- Natural yoghurt
- Sour cucumbers
- Apple Cider Vinegar
So that the intestinal flora remains active in the long term, the probiotic foods must be eaten regularly. Even a few days without the supply of these foods can put the intestinal flora in the original state. As an alternative, you could occasionally use a medical drug product here. The Doppelherz company offers probiotics as drinking granules including four different lactic acid and bifidocultures. These ensure a healthy digestion and support the intestinal activity.
»Important note: Constipation can also be caused by lactose intolerance. This can be easily found by dispensing with all dairy products such as milk, buttermilk, yogurt & Co. for a while.
If the blockages are so severe that, despite the home remedies, there is no improvement, you should consult a doctor and have the matter cleared up medically.
Of course, with the home remedies mentioned above, not everyone strikes as hoped. There you should just try a little bit.
Extra tip: use toilet stool
During my research I came across another possibility. Although this is not directly a home remedy, it is not a medical remedy. In a forum, a toilet stool (such as available here) was recommended in which the changed sitting position at a 35 degree angle makes it easier to solve the blockages.
